SRWC Announces 2002 Work Plan
The Councils board of trustees recently approved a 2002 Work Plan that includes the following priorities for 2002:
- Increase Flow to the River: Continue working with Lynn Water and Sewer Commission and environmental officials to maximize flow in the River. Efforts will be targeted to ensuring adequate flow for anadromous fisheries.
- Improve Water Quality: Continue Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Program and conduct intensive sampling in hot spots such as the Town Line Brook watershed. Ongoing advocacy to reduce bacterial pollution will also continue.
- Reduce Illegal Dumping: Through cleanups and preventive measures, SRWC will work with watershed communities to address the major environmental problem of dumping in the watershed.
- Town Line Brook Initiative: Continue ongoing partnership with Massachusetts Environmental Trust, and GeoSyntec Consultants to address water quality and flooding problems in this sub-watershed.
- Saugus River Guide: Publish and distribute a guide to natural resources and public access in the watershed.
- Fish Spotter Program: Launch a new volunteer-based program in support of our fisheries restoration efforts.
- Youth Education: SRWC will educate approximately 1,000 youths through quality environmental education programs featuring innovative field and classroom activities. Youths will explore sites such as Reedy Meadows, Rumney Marsh, Camp Nihan, and Town Line Brook.
- Public Programs: SRWC will host a wide range of free public programs such as canoe trips and natural history events to introduce the public to the natural resources of the watershed.
