Winter 2001 Currents

North Coastal Basin Team Adopts Work Plan

Under the leadership of Team Leader Larry Gil, the North Coastal Watershed Basin Team has finalized its Fiscal Year 2002 Work Plan. Projects most relevant to the Saugus River Watershed include:

  • $45,000 to provide technical assistance for storm drainage mapping for NPDES Phase II compliance to three or four communities.
  • $4,000 for training workshops on Comprehensive Permit Guidelines (Chapter 40B) for local zoning boards of appeals and planning boards.
  • $10,000 toward staff to help communities implement conservation subdivision design, draft community development and open space plans, and integrate Community Preservation Act into local planning activities.
  • $3,000 toward training sessions in soil investigation and field botany for health agents, conservation commission, and planning board members.
  • $20,000 toward a Salt Marsh Restoration Project Coordinator whose tasks include finalizing a restoration plan for the Rumney Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern.
  • Continuing initiatives include the $50,000 flow study of the Saugus River being coordinated by the Dept. of Environmental Management. SRWC continues to serve on the advisory committee for the flow study.
