New Education Programs Begin
Students test water temperature.
Thanks to funds from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust, SRWC is offering free educational programs to schools and non-profit organizations within the Town Line Brook Watershed. What is a watershed? How can we improve and help protect the resources within the Town Line Brook Watershed? How does water quality monitoring play a role? What plants and animals live within the Town Line Brook Watershed? Students will explore as they learn the answers to these questions. On any given day students may see cormorants, sandpipers, great blue herons, egrets, mummichogs, or red tailed hawks.
The 2,500 acre Town Line Brook Watershed includes land in Revere, Malden, Melrose and Everett. The Town Line Brook, Trifone Brook, Linden Brook and portions of Rumney Marsh including the Sea Plane Basin are all part of the Town Line Brook Watershed, which is located within the southern portions of the Saugus River Watershed.
This new fall program consists of two in-school visits and one on-site visit at Town Line Brook for grades 6-12. For registration or information contact Nicole Cave-Luongo at (781) 233-5046 or nicolecave99@yahoo.com. For the Massachusetts Science and Technology Curriculum Frameworks this program meets aspects of Strand1: Inquiry, Strand 2: Life Sciences and Strand 4: Science, Technology, and Human Affairs for grades 6-12.
