Potential Trucking Facility
Threatens Watershed

Crystal Motors Trucking has submitted a proposal to create a truck terminal at Kimball Lane in Lynnfield adjacent to the Saugus River. This is a re-submittal of a project that was previously denied by the Lynnfield Conservation Commission and ended up in court when abutters took legal action against a Department of Environmental Protection superceding order of conditions. In final court action, the ConCom decision was upheld and project proponents were required to resubmit revised plans to the ConCom.

The Saugus River Watershed Council is currently reviewing the Notice of Intent recently submitted to the Lynnfield Conservation Commission. Implementation of this project could significantly harm the natural resources of the Saugus River as well as the wetlands and pond located on the site.

Due to its size and proximity to important natural resources, SRWC believes that this site is not appropriate for a trucking facility.

One of our concerns is the significant potential for increased stormwater pollution associated with the oil and grease from vehicles that will run off the land after every rainfall. The potential for a spill during truck re-fueling operations is an even greater concern.

There is currently much debate among scientists reviewing the project regarding the delineation of wetlands boundaries that will determine the possible scope and final size of the project. The Saugus River Watershed Council is working to ensure that the riverfront area, wetlands, and wetland buffer zones are fully protected.

Other potential negative impacts of this project include truck traffic, noise, and air pollution
