Identifying Brownfields

Daylor Consulting has been hired through the Massachusetts Watershed Initiative to identify brownfield sites located throughout the North Coastal Basin, including the Saugus River watershed. The consultants will first create an inventory of potential sites, develop GIS layers for a database, and then develop a priority list of sites with sample redevelopment efforts.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency definition being used for brownfield sites is: “abandoned, idled or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where redevelopment is complicatd by real or perceived contamination.” Once the list of sites is finalized, it will be available to help inform advocacy efforts to cleanup contaminated sites along the Saugus River and other North Coastal watersheds.
