The Department of Public Works is moving ahead to prepare the Gertrude Spaulding Park for a late September dedication. According to DPW Director Rick Stinson, improvement of the ground conditions and reseeding will be completed by July. Both the Wakefield Garden Club and Trees for Wakefield have offered to provide native trees and shrubs not funded by current monies. Bill Spaulding will help with plans for a memorial stone. The Friends of Lake Quannapowitt is working with Selectman Paula Pennell and Administrator Tom Butler to develop a fair process for the many people who have expressed an interest in donating lakeside benches, four of which will be placed within the park itself.
